The Proposed Protecting Renters Ordinance
Mayor Brandon Johnson is expected to introduce a so-called “Protecting Renters Ordinance” as early as next week, which would substantially revise Chicago’s Landlord & Tenant Ordinance. We have been told that the City Council Housing and Real Estate Committee plans to hold a hearing on this proposal on Wednesday, June 10, at 12:30 pm. We are further told that the committee will not vote on the ordinance at that time.

While the ordinance has not yet been released, initial reports suggest it contains many troubling provisions that could significantly harm the multifamily housing industry and make it more difficult to provide quality affordable housing.

I urge you to attend an informational meeting moderated by Stephen Rich, President of the South Side Community Investors Association. The panel will feature NBOA representatives, including lobbyists Joe Moore and Adriann Murawski, and publicist Myk Snider. We will share details regarding the proposal and discuss how you can help us oppose it.

Following the discussion, I will update you on our Summer Soiree on Thursday, August 6, and share sponsorship opportunities for the NBOA. Your financial support is critical to our efforts to help you operate your business successfully.
