URGENT: Be at City Hall Monday — Stop Mayor Johnson’s Housing Ordinance

Stop Mayor Johnson’s Housing Ordinance
The City Council Committee on Housing and Real Estate is holding a hearing this Monday, June 29, 10 AM, at City Hall, on Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed ordinance to radically change Chicago’s Landlord-Tenant Ordinance. No vote will be taken, but this is where the fight begins—and we need to fill the room.

Why it matters:

·       100+ new regulations that increase costs for owners and tenants

·       A new fee on every apartment—up to $60 per unit per year—would make housing less affordable

·       Just Cause Eviction—requiring owners to renew leases for all tenants, including those who disturb or harass neighbors or are suspected of criminal activity.

Housing cannot become more affordable if it becomes more expensive to provide.

What we’re asking:

·       Show up. A full room of neighborhood housing providers demonstrates our strength in numbers. Please arrive at least 45 minutes early; we expect a large, energetic crowd of tenant advocates.

·       Support NBOA’s voice. NBOA representatives may testify, and your presence supports their message.
